Our ex-Vice President, Dan Quayle

Dan Quayle quotes are like food for me. I get a craving to read some of his crazy comments and attempts at intellectuality every once in a while. Here are some of my favorites:

1. The Holocaust was an obscene period in our nation's history. I mean in this century's history. But we all lived in this century. I didn't live in this century.

2. Republicans understand the importance of bondage between a mother and child.

3. We don't want to go back to tomorrow, we want to go forward.

4. We have a firm commitment to NATO, we are a *part* of NATO. We have a firm commitment to Europe. We are a *part* of Europe.

5. What a waste it is to lose one's mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is.

6. One word sums up probably the responsibility of any vice president, and that one word is 'to be prepared'.

7. I have made good judgements in the past. I have made good judgements in the future.

8. I love California, I practically grew up in Phoenix.

9. I want to be Robin to Bush's Batman.

10. I was recently on a tour of Latin America, and the only regret I have was that I didn't study Latin harder in school so I could converse with those people.

10. It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it.

11. It's wonderful to be here in the great state of Chicago.

12. Votes are like trees, if you are trying to build a forest. If you have more trees than you have forests, then at that point the pollsters will probably say you will win.

How that man became Vice President, I'll never know.

Myers-Briggs Mania!

My team at work has decided that everyone of us should take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test. So, this afternoon I got to take a different version of the test which was 144 questions as opposed to the 70 question version which is in the Please Understand Me book. It was very cool, and many of the questions were very thought provoking. Next Thursday someone from our Development office is going to come in and talk to us about the results and what not, so that should be really interesting. I think I might try and predict what everyone one is just for the heck of it.

We also just had dinner with my parents and an Emeritus member of the First Quorom of the Seventy, who was my parents' Stake President way back in the days in North Carolina. The restaurant we ate at was a Chinese restaurant in the middle of Bountiful that supposedly has been named one of the 10 best Chinese restaurants in the US by USA Today. It was pretty darn good. It was also really interesting to hear this member of the Seventy talk about politics, as he was well versed in the current events, and quite opinionated as well. He's definitely a Conservative, and would have definitely voted for Romney, but will now vote for McCain.

Anyways, I think we're going to go swimming at the Marriott now where my parents are staying.

Happy Friday!

Oscars!!!

So, this Sunday we get the Oscars!! Since I'm obsessed with movies I'm having an urge to make predictions for the upcoming Oscars. Here they are:

Best Picture: No Country For Old Men
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood)
Best Actress: Julie Christie (Away From Her)
Best Supporting Actress: Cate Blanchett (I'm Not There)
Best Supporting Actor: Javier Bardem (No Country For Old Men)
Best Editing: The Bourne Ultimatum
Best Cinematography: No Country For Old Men
Best Director: The Coen Brothers (No Country For Old Men)
Best Original Screenplay: Juno
Best Adapted Screenplay: There Will Be Blood

This was pretty hard actually. I would not be surprised if There Will Be Blood or Juno won Best Picture, but I just think No Country is too good to be looked over.

I'll take a McCain, with some fries (hopefully fresh)

So, I was thinking that McCain, who will inevitably recieve the Republican nomination, is kind of like taking a road trip and coming to that time of day when you need food, but you're in the middle of nowhere and all there is to eat is McDonald's. Upon the realization of this truth, you cringe, and hope for the best, which typically consists of a decent chicken product (in my case since I refuse to eat hamburgers from McDonald's), and some good fries. McCain represents our best option by attrition of the more conservative and electable candidates. In truth, this post is for those who say they will vote for Obama instead of McCain for whatever reason you see logical. I can't imagine the executive and legislative branches of government controlled solely by Democrats at this crucial time in our history, and from what I hear this is what will happen if Obama is elected. Universal Health Care, tax increases, Illegal Immigration, and who knows what in Iraq as soon as they pull all the troops out, not to mention our Homeland Security just to name a few. For those of you struggling to come to terms with McCain's record, and ideology, here is a link to a Wall Streeet Journal article that demystifies many of McCain's stands on issues, and why he is worthy of our vote. So, read on, and hopefully you'll get that decent McCain sandwich you were hoping for, and we can all hope for some good fries (ie, Romney as VP or something else in his administration).

The US recognizes Kosovo

This is an interesting little newsbit about Kosovo, and what they represent. As you may know the US just recognized Kosovo and their declared independence from Serbia. However, it's important to consider the consequences of such an action, considering Russia's stand on this issue. This article points out the implications of such a move, and the relations we've had with Kosovo in the past. Pretty interesting stuff.

Bill and Hillary - aka the "Axis of Evil"

Here is an excerpt from an article in the Wall Street Journal that digs up the past a little bit....

On Aug. 7, 1999, the one-year anniversary of the U.S. African embassy bombings that killed 257 people and injured 5,000, President Bill Clinton reaffirmed his commitment to the victims of terrorism, vowing that he "will not rest until justice is done." Four days later, while Congress was on summer recess, the White House quietly issued a press release announcing that the president was granting clemency to 16 imprisoned members of FALN.

The article goes on to posit that Pres. Clinton did this to pander to the Hispanic vote that would be vital to the election of Hillary as Senator of New York, a campaign she had been putting togethor as they prepared to transition to the post-Presidency life.
Find the rest of this article at Real Clear Politics from an article that was published to their home page called "The Clintons' Terror Pardons".

Amsterdam Concert

Ahhh, such good times. There's nothing like playing a live show. Getting a free trip to Europe on top of that was the deal of a lifetime.
